Acting Vice President of External Affairs
Aeras is a ~20 year old product development partnership mandated to coordinate the research and development of new TB vaccines across the public and private sectors. When their majority donor reneged on their multi-year funding commitment, a key member of their executive team resigned and I was recruited as their Acting Vice President of External Affairs (EA). Due to the funding crisis, the EA department was slated to close down over the 9 month period of my contract. During that time my team convened an official side meeting at the first WHO Ministerial Conference on TB in Moscow, organized the 5th Global Forum on TB Vaccine Research and Development in New Delhi, and planned an advocacy strategy to influence the impending UN General Assembly High Level Meeting on Tuberculosis. We led and contributed to policy documents, science and health media briefings, and recruited government sponsorship from both donor and high-disease burdened nations. We also successfully finalized 5 new clinical trial awards. I managed a team of 5 staff and 3 consultants, and reported directly to the CEO and the Board's External Relations Committee.
