In 2013, I was recruited to join the Global Policy and Advocacy (GPA) team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, serving the family planning and MNCH (maternal, newborn and child health) technical teams.  By the time I left at the end of 2016, we expanded the portfolios to encompass more developing country based institutions, we integrated the entire RMNCAH continuum of care within the GPA division, and we made a seminal new grant to UNICEF to help them reframe their advocacy in the age of the Sustainable Development Goals.  The foundation's principles of results-based grant making, and close collaboration on the development of all new partnerships enabled Senior Program Officers like me to invest wisely, and optimize the foundation's impact on improving the lives and livelihoods of the world's most disadvantaged populations
