Planning & Strategy
2012-13. Population Council leadership retained me to consult on two strategic planning processes. The first project was a three-year plan, funding analysis, and board presentation for the newly appointed Vice President of the Council’s Poverty, Gender and Youth program. The second was an in-depth survey and SWOT analysis of the Council’s HIV/AIDS program, which culminated in a report to the President’s “strategic refresh” initiative. Many staff and external advisors and stakeholders were interviewed; current donor trends were analyzed in the context of the program’s future funding objectives; and revisions to the HIV/AIDS program’s organizational structure were recommended.
2018: The Council's leadership retained me to design, facilitate, and report on a pivotal all-staff exercise entitled "Big Ideas: The Future of the Population Council." Using an advance survey and consulting with key Council leaders, the exercise proved to be hugely popular among staff. Two identical session were convened at two different Council locations and times, allowing the method to be contextualized; a broadroll-out of the exercise was recommended. Some of the Big Ideas that emanated from the exercise have provoked leadership to explore them more deeply.
