2007 and 2010. Women Deliver was the brainchild of a long-time mentor and close colleague, Jill Sheffield, who retained me to work on various aspects of the 1st and 2nd Women Deliver conferences, held in London and Washington D.C. respectively. For the London conference, Jill placed me in charge of the plenary hall where high-level dignitaries presented speeches, participated in panel discussions, and launched significant new funding initiatives. My role was “production manager” ensuring that all sessions ran smoothly, and trouble-shooting the needs of all participants, both on stage and in the audience. For the Washington D.C. conference, I functioned as the secretary to the Ministers Forum, a gathering of 60+ ministers of health and development from developed and developing countries who were charged with issuing a declaration of commitment to meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of girls and women everywhere. Working closely with senior diplomats from various UN agencies, I co-authored the declaration which was a hard-won consensus reflecting the robust and often contentious debates among the Ministers and their delegations.
